Because Subway’s breakfast sandwiches are so fresh and delicious, we theorized that they could turn anyone into a morning person. So we took a group of people not typically known for their morning enthusiasm — rock stars — and created the world’s first alarm clock rock band, the Bed Heads.
With their patented untamed hair and pajama outfits, the Bed Heads’ breed of exceedingly cheery music was specifically designed to be played through the alarm clock. We created a band tour bus, a sunrise tour of actual Subway locations, an alarm clock app that was tied to a mobile coupon and a kickoff song that could be heard both in our commercial and on Spotify.
We also shot some viral footage of the band’s enigmatic frontman, Clyde McKendrick, talking about 7 a.m. encores and his favorite salutation, “Good morning bacon and eggs, can you smell you?”
(Little-known fact: Lead vocals on the Bed Heads’ hit single “Morning Happiness” were performed by Sting’s son, Joe Sumner.)
